Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

We will be picked up at the airport and driven to Windhoek. The hotel offers an outdoor pool and spa area. There are several restaurants on the premises with outdoor and indoor seating areas, and the sky bar offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Klein Windhoek district. The afternoon is at leisure, possibly for a city tour or depending on arrival we can take a stroll through the city centre (optional).

Day 2: Flight to AfriCat Foundation

Transfer to Eros Airport and flight to Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation. Here, projects for the care and reintroduction of injured or previously captive animals are carried out and explained, as well as research projects on the African big cats, but also on the African Wild Dogs.

In the afternoon on the Leopard Tracking Activity, we drive out into the Okonjima Nature Reserve and get the opportunity to experience these magnificent predators up close - pure goose bumps! The Okonjima Bush Camp is situated in a 22'000 ha private nature reserve in the middle of the Omboroko Mountains.

Day 3: Okonjima

In the Morning we will go on another game drive. We learn and understand more about the fauna and flora of the private Nature Reserve. On this game drive we have the possibility to see the shy Brown Hyena, Aardvark, Bat-eared fox, and Rhino.

Returning to the camp we could visit the AfriCat Foundation Carnivore Care & Information Centre (ACCC) (optional).

Back in the camp we can enjoy lunch and relax next to the pool before we go on another game drive which focuses on the wildlife on the reserve. More than 40 mammal species call the reserve their home.

Day 4: Etosha National Park

After breakfast we fly to the Etosha National Park, which is one of the largest game reserves in the world with almost 23'000 km2. Dozens of mammal and reptile species, several amphibian species and mor than 300 bird species call the Etosha National Park their home.

The parks most notable geological feature is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space. The salt pan is normally dry, however in the raining season fills up with water which attracts flamingos, pelicans, and other waterbirds.

The abundant wildlife congregates around the waterhole which almost guarantees game sightings.

In the afternoon we go on a guided game drive in the Etosha National Park. The experienced lodge guide will show us the fauna and flora of this fascinating landscape and hopefully we see some giraffes, springbok, oryx, elephants and zebras,

Back at the lodge we are being spoilt with a delicious dinner and a good wine selection.

Day 5: Etosha National Park

Early morning, we take another game drive into the park, where we might see some nocturnal animals on their way home from their nightly activities. We return to Mushara for lunch and to enjoy the pool at the lodge.

On a last game drive in the afternoon, we search for the elusive black rhino, lions, and shy leopard.

In the evening we look up into the sky and enjoy the multitude of the twinkling stars and the brightly visible Milky Way.

Day 6 & 7: Flight into Damaraland

Again, we leave after breakfast and fly over the Etosha National Park and the Damaraland towards Purros where the Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is situated.

The vegetation in this area is sparse. Only small bushes, succulents, euphorbias, and other desert plants characterize the landscape. Table and cone mountains shape the area, and basalt rocks testify to the volcanic activities of 130 million years ago.

The beautiful lodge is perched on a hill above the banks of the ephemeral Hoarusib River. It is an oasis of luxury in the middle of the desert. During the next two days we can visit a nearby Himba village and take the opportunity to meet the people of this interesting tribe. The women wear only a loincloth, rub their bodies with red ochre fat with red ochre fat and do not wash all their lives. It is certainly interesting to see how they live in this lonely desert area.

Other interesting excursion offered by the lodge include tracking of the desert adapted elephants or tracking the elusive black rhinos, nature and scenic drives, morning walks and sundowner drives. The guide will discuss the activities with us, and we can decide which activities we want to experience.

Day 8: Flight to Twyfelfontein Area

After a delicious breakfast we are off to the Twyfelfontein Area. The flight lasts around 1 hour and gives us the opportunity to view the Damaraland from above.

The Twyfelfontein Adventure camp is nestled between rolling boulders in the Huab River Valley.

In the afternoon we stroll to the nearby Damara Living Museum, not far from our camp. Here we can learn more about the Damara culture, one of the oldest nations in Namibia. The Damara were archaic hunter-gatherers and herders of cattle, goat, and sheep. The museum serves to conserve the Damara culture.

Day 9: Twyfelfontein

Early morning, we are booked on the Huab River Scenic Drive where we hope to spot the rare desert adapted elephants in their natural habitat. Our guide will let us know how to behave, as the desert elephants are a bit more aggressive than elephants in the national parks. They compete with farmers with their cattle and goats, who fight over the sparse water.

Day 10: Flight to the coastal town of Swakopmund

Today’s flight will take us over the Doros crater and down the coast of Namibia to Swakopmund.

We are transferred to the Strand Hotel Swakopmund which is located on the beach and in walking distance of the city centre.

The afternoon we have time to relax on the beach, stroll through the city centre of Swakopmund or book a treatment at the spa of our hotel.

In the evening we enjoy dinner in one of the restaurants with a view of the ocean.

Day 11: Swakopmund

Today we join a very interesting boat trip on the lagoon of Walvis Bay. We will surely see hundreds of seals and flamingos, possibly also dolphins, pelicans and with a lot of luck even sunfish, leatherback turtles and in season whales.

In the afternoon we have time go sightseeing in Swakopmund. Try a cake in one of the German cafes, visit the Swakopmund Museum, where the history and the different cultures of Namibia are presented very vividly.

Also interesting is to take a comfortable stroll on the historic peer. On the other hand, we perhaps would rather linger on the beach or take an extensive walk along the beach promenade.

Day 12 & 13: Scenic flight to the Namib Desert

Our flight starts in Swakopmund and takes us along the coasts over the Namib Desert and Sossusvlei to the NamibRand Nature Reserve.

The NamibRand Nature Reserve is a highlight for enthusiastic photographers and nature lovers. Morning and afternoon game drives are offered. We drive over the endless grasslands dotted with the legendary fairy circles fairy circles, over smaller dunes, and along mystically shaped mountain formations. We see animals such as oryx antelope, ostriches, and springboks, which know how to survive in this arid desert region. These landscapes are beautiful and radiate a special tranquillity which is good for every soul.

The Wolwedans Dune Camp is positioned on the edge of a 250 m high dune. The tents, pitched on wooden platforms, also sports a generous deck allowing a safe sleep-out under the stars.

Day 14: Return to Windhoek

Today’s flight to Windhoek takes us over the Namib Desert and Khomas Hochland to the international airport in time for our departure flight back home.
